Buying guide
The Volt Step Down PRO clips onto a standard 18–20V cordless tool battery and turns it into a portable 12V power supply. If you already run Makita, Milwaukee, DeWalt or another 18V platform at home or on the job, those batteries become your camp power. Use the Battery platform filter to see the version that fits yours.
What you can run
- 12V fridge: through the 15A Anderson plug
- Lights, fans and water pumps: through the 12V cigarette socket (10A)
- Laptop, phone or Starlink Mini: through 65W USB-C PD
- A second phone or a torch: through the 5V USB-A port
How long will it run a fridge?
At temperature, a 12V fridge draws about 1 amp on average, so a 12Ah battery gives roughly 12 hours. Pre-cool the fridge on vehicle or mains power first. Hot weather makes the fridge cycle more often and shortens runtime.
PRO or the standard power supply?
- Volt Step Down PRO: 15A continuous (about 20A peak for roughly 8 minutes), Anderson plug plus 12V socket, and 65W USB-C. Suits fridges and running several things at once.
- 18V to 12V Power Supply: up to 10A through an Anderson plug with adjustable 5–13V output. Suits lights, fans, pumps and smaller loads.
Before you buy
- Battery not included. Each version fits the 18–20V batteries of the brand in its name.
- Don't use dual-battery adaptors for longer runtime, and never combine two batteries at different charge levels. Both can damage the batteries.
- Built-in low-voltage, over-current and short-circuit protection.
Charge and connect
- Recharge on the drive with an In-Car Battery Charger, or buy the PRO and a charger together in our Power Bundles.
- Starlink Mini: see our Starlink Mini Power Kits for the USB-C to DC cable.
- Leads and adaptors: Anderson splitters and 12V socket leads are in Cables & Connectors.
Makita, Milwaukee, DeWalt, Bosch, Ryobi, AEG, Ozito and Einhell are trade marks of their respective owners. These are aftermarket products, compatible with those batteries but not made, approved or endorsed by the battery brands.
Frequently asked questions
Will it run my 12V fridge?
Yes. Plug the fridge into the 15A Anderson outlet. At temperature, most 12V fridges draw about 1 amp on average, so a 12Ah tool battery gives roughly 12 hours. Pre-cool the fridge first; hot weather shortens runtime.
Which batteries does it fit?
Each version fits the 18–20V slide-on batteries of one platform: Makita 18V LXT, Milwaukee M18, DeWalt 18V/20V, Bosch 18V, Ryobi ONE+, AEG 18V or Ozito/Einhell 18V. Choose yours with the Battery platform filter. Batteries aren't included.
Can I power a Starlink Mini with it?
Yes. The USB-C port supplies up to 65W (PD3.0). Use our Starlink Mini USB-C to DC cable, which has the chip that switches the port to 20V, while the Anderson plug runs your fridge. The genuine Starlink USB-C cable won't run it.
Can I use two batteries for longer runtime?
No. Don't use dual-battery adaptors, and never combine two batteries at different charge levels; both can damage the batteries. Swap in a fresh battery instead.
How do I recharge the batteries at camp?
Use your normal tool charger on mains or solar power, or one of our in-car battery chargers, which run off your vehicle's 12V or 24V while you drive.
How much is delivery and where do you send?
We deliver anywhere in Australia. Shipping is calculated at checkout from your address and the items in your order, and every delivery includes in-transit insurance. We send with Australia Post, FedEx or DHL depending on the size and weight of your order.
Can I pick up my order instead?
Yes. Choose Pickup In-Store at checkout and collect your order from our store at 14 Cessna Street, Marcoola, on the Sunshine Coast. It saves the shipping cost.
Do you ship overseas?
Yes, for everything except awnings. International shipping is calculated at checkout, not including local import duties and taxes, which the receiver pays. For an overseas quote on an awning, email info@mrswagman.com.au or call +61 (0)7 5302 6954.
What's the warranty?
Every Mr Swagman product has a 12-month warranty against manufacturing defects, such as stitching or a seam coming apart, or a zip, buckle or pole failing in normal use. It starts on the day you receive the product, and it's in addition to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
Can I return it if I change my mind?
Yes, within 30 days of receiving it, as long as it's unused and in its original packaging. Please contact us first. You pay the return freight, the original shipping cost isn't refunded, and a 5% restocking fee comes off your refund, which we process once the item is back with us and approved for resale. If anything arrives faulty, damaged or not as described, that's different: contact us and we'll sort it out under the Australian Consumer Law, with no restocking fee.
What should I do when my order arrives?
Check the box and the product for damage before you sign for it. If there's any damage, note it with the driver before signing, or refuse the delivery. Without that, we can't claim on the freight insurance.
