Buying guide
A good swag is a bed you can roll out anywhere: on the ground, in the tray of the ute, or on a beach at the end of a long day's driving. Every Mr Swagman swag is designed in Australia for touring and 4WD adventure, in heavy-duty Stockman Brown canvas with a waterproof PVC floor.
Which swag suits you?
- Dome swags stand on their own with aluminium hoop poles, so you can sit up inside. The Ultimate King Single is 1000mm wide with 800mm of headroom. The Ultimate King Double is 1500mm wide with 1000mm of headroom, room for two. Both have an 80mm mattress, insect mesh doors and a full-length rainfly.
- Traditional swags roll out like a bedroll. The Original King Single has no poles, a 70mm mattress and weighs 7.2kg. The Classic King Single adds full-length midge mesh and can be lifted with a rope or pitched with two poles.
- Compact swags pack small. The Biker Swag rolls to 55cm × 20cm and weighs 5kg, for a motorbike rack or a crowded ute.

Frequently asked questions
What is a swag?
A swag is a canvas bed you can roll up: a tough canvas shell with a foam mattress inside, made to sleep in on the ground, a stretcher or the tray of the ute.
The name goes back to the swagmen of the 1800s, who walked the country between jobs with their bedding and belongings rolled up and slung over one shoulder. It's where our name comes from. Today's swags keep the same idea, with better canvas, thicker mattresses, insect mesh and, on dome swags, poles that give you room to sit up.
What types of swags are there?
Three main kinds, and our range covers all three:
- Dome swags stand on their own with hoop poles, so you can sit up, read or get changed inside. See the Ultimate King Single and the Ultimate King Double.
- Traditional swags roll out flat like a bedroll. They're lighter and pack smaller. The Original King Single has no poles; the Classic King Single adds midge mesh and can be pitched with two poles.
- Compact swags pack small for motorbikes and tight loads, like the 5kg Biker Swag.
Dome or traditional: which should I choose?
Choose a dome swag if you want room to sit up, a place to wait out rain, and mesh doors for hot nights. It's heavier and packs bigger: the Ultimate King Single weighs 18kg.
Choose a traditional swag if you want the lightest, simplest setup, or you sleep on a stretcher or a ute tray. The Original King Single weighs 7.2kg.
What size swag do I need?
For one adult, a king single. Ours are 2100mm long and 900mm to 1000mm wide, so taller people aren't cramped.
For two, the Ultimate King Double is 1500mm wide with 1000mm of headroom and doors on both sides, so nobody climbs over anyone at night.
If space on the bike or in the ute is tight, the Biker Swag is still full length at 2100mm × 800mm but rolls to 55cm × 20cm.
What are Mr Swagman swags made from?
Heavy-duty canvas in Stockman Brown. The Ultimate dome swags use 420gsm poly-cotton canvas, double stitched. The Classic, Original and Biker swags use 410gsm (12oz) canvas.
Canvas breathes, so there's less condensation inside, and it resists rot, mildew and UV. Underneath is heavy PVC against ground moisture: a 500gsm PVC bucket floor on the Ultimates and 15oz Hypa-PVC on the traditional swags.
Are the swags waterproof?
The PVC floors are waterproof, and on the Ultimate swags the floor runs up the sides like a bucket, so water on the ground stays outside.
The canvas sheds rain. The Ultimates add a full-length rainfly, storm flaps over the side zips and rain hoods over the mesh windows. Wherever you camp, pitch on high ground away from where water will run.
How do I look after my swag?
Brush off sand and dirt before you roll it up. If you have to pack up wet, unroll it and let it dry completely as soon as you can: even mildew-resistant canvas will mark if it's stored damp.
Store it rolled loosely in a dry place. On the Ultimate swags, the mattress cover comes off for washing.
Can I bring the dog?
Yes. The Dog Swag is a canvas swag for dogs, 80cm long, wide and high, with a sewn-in mattress and a waterproof PVC floor. It ties to a tree, roof rack or awning arm, and rolls up small enough to travel with your own swag.
How much is delivery and where do you send?
We deliver anywhere in Australia, and shipping is free on orders of $1,500 or more. Below that, it's calculated at checkout from your address and the items in your order. Every delivery includes in-transit insurance, and we send with Australia Post, FedEx or DHL depending on the size and weight of your order.
Can I pick up my order instead?
Yes. Choose Pickup In-Store at checkout and collect your order from our store at 14 Cessna Street, Marcoola, on the Sunshine Coast. It saves the shipping cost.
Do you ship overseas?
Yes, for everything except awnings. International shipping is calculated at checkout, not including local import duties and taxes, which the receiver pays. For an overseas quote on an awning, email info@mrswagman.com.au or call +61 (0)7 5302 6954.
What's the warranty?
Every Mr Swagman product has a 12-month warranty against manufacturing defects, such as stitching or a seam coming apart, or a zip, buckle or pole failing in normal use. It starts on the day you receive the product, and it's in addition to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
Can I return it if I change my mind?
Yes, within 30 days of receiving it, as long as it's unused and in its original packaging. Please contact us first. You pay the return freight, the original shipping cost isn't refunded, and a 5% restocking fee comes off your refund, which we process once the item is back with us and approved for resale. If anything arrives faulty, damaged or not as described, that's different: contact us and we'll sort it out under the Australian Consumer Law, with no restocking fee.
What should I do when my order arrives?
Check the box and the product for damage before you sign for it. If there's any damage, note it with the driver before signing, or refuse the delivery. Without that, we can't claim on the freight insurance.
